12 StageSchool Ireland students have represented their country in the first ever European Junior Theatre Celebration hosted by licensing agency, Music Theatre International.

The inaugral Junior Theatre Celebration took place on Sunday 12th March 2017 at the Curve Theatre in Leicester. One of the largest theatres in the UK, over 300 students age 7 to 17 from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland performed and represented their schools on the day.

The adjudicators included directors Lotte Wakeham, Steven Dexter, and Racky Plews, as well as iTheatrics’ founder Timothy Allen McDonald and colleagues Steven G. Kennedy and Marty Johnson. Section of shows presented on the day included Guys & Dolls and Hairspray Jr from StageSchool Ireland, Once on This Island, Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.

The afternoon workshops were presented by teaching artists from Disney’s The Lion King, Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical and Wicked. The evening event included a question and answer session with Strictly Come Dancing’s Joanne Clifton, as well as performances from West End performers Liam Doyle (Wicked, Mamma Mia!), Sophie Linder-Lee (Wicked, Mamma Mia!), Sam Lupton (Little Shop of Horrors, Starting Here, Starting Now) and Kayleigh McKnight (Les Misérables, Bend It Like Beckham).

The students from StageSchool Galway and Mayo centres were Isaac and Leora Morahan, (pictured above at registration), Alex and Finn Lucey, Caoimhe Lisibach, Aoife McDonagh, Kaelan Hynes, Charli Thomas, Amy McDonagh, Hannah McNally, Grace Glynn and Caitlin Calvey with original choreography and direction from dance teacher, Siomha Mc Garry.
